When leaving east central Idaho, my general plan was to head south to the Snake River and then westward to see the eclipse in Oregon. I lack a story to tell, so the following is just a collection of photos from this portion of the trip.

Little City of Rocks is a fun diversion west of Highway 46.

Below is a view of the Bruneau River from an overlook about eighteen miles SE of Bruneau. The view is more spectacular than this photo depicts.

Cleo’s Ferry Museum is an eclectic place. It is hard to describe. I suggest that you stop and visit it. It is free or a donation.

The area around Cleo’s Ferry Museum and Celebration Park has lots of petroglyphs.

The Facts

  • The Owyhee County Museum in Murphy is nice and worth a stop.
  • The road to the Little City of Rocks is not graveled and a sign indicates that it is closed when wet.
  • The location of Cleo’s Ferry Museum is here. Absolutely no dogs anywhere. There are peacocks at the museum.
  • The Celebration Park campground is rarely full. I was told that the only time it fills is the first warm weekend days in spring.
  • Exploring the Owyhee Uplands Back County Byway has been on my todo list for years. But not this trip. It had been raining and I was reminded by a local of the name of the south portion of the road – Mud Flat Road. He said don’t go.
