Snakes – Oh My

Tags

I had read that the Owyhees was rattlesnake country. One of the hunters I talked with didn’t bring his hunting dog with him because of the snakes. Another group had all their dogs given the rattlesnake vaccine. I took this chatter as a serious warning. Rocket would have to stay on a leash.

On our walk up Juniper Gulch we fortunately saw no snakes. The next day I walked up the Sage Creek track.

Next Stop the Owyhees

Before my next stop, a surprise leak in the trailer had to be dealt with.   Water dripping outside the trailer was what I saw when I reached my brother’s.  Darn.  I dealt with it by draining the water tank and released the pressure from the water system.  I grabbed a beer and decided to ignore the problem, I could deal with it later.  Today was later, and I had to deal with the problem.

Farewell Bend

It was a long day driving from Tooele, Utah to the Farewell Bend campground in Oregon. Four states in one day.  I pulled into the campground about a half hour before sunset.  The pictures below are a view of the winter camping area.  An area with more mature trees was closed for the season.

Not much else to write.  It was a good functional spot to spend the night.  I was back on the road early the next morning driving home.

Tooele

Driving towards home I reached Tooele, Utah at 2:00 in the afternoon – too early to stop for the day.  It was a pleasant warm 75 degree.  When talking to my mother earlier that day, she advised me to stay as long as I could in Utah.  Stay, she strongly advised.  Seattle had been having terrible weather that would result in a rainfall record for October.  I stopped driving home and found a county campground at Tooele that I turned into following my mother’s advice.  This would be my last day of the fall season for me, after that it would be winter when I get home.

And it was warm.  At 9:00 pm I still had the trailer door open.  At 8:00 am when I left the next morning it was 69 degrees.

Moab

Moab is a bit touristy, but it has the right to be with so much to see in the area.  I saw only a few of the local sights, leaving most to see on a return trip.   The two sights I saw were the Mill Canyon Dino Tracks and Arches National Park.

North of Moab about 15 miles is the Mill Canyon Dino Track site.  There have been lots of tracks uncovered.  It amazes me that foot prints made long ago has survived as stone.
